If I was able to change one of the past events, I would choose to prevent the WWII from breaking out. Of course there were many more horrifying events in the world's history, although this one seems to be a bit personal for me, as my grandparents lost their relatives and got scarred for life because of the war. This way I could not only save millions of lives but also protect my country from destruction. I also believe that maybe the world would be a more peaceful place now, as the Manhattan Project would't had started in the first place and there would be no atomic bombs, or at least there would be no desire for using them...

fun times.

It is slightly embarrassing, but when I was about 12 years old, I've had a huge crush on Eminem. He is a rap singer from Detroit, whose career seems to be coming to an end now. I remember being absolutely fascinated by his music, which of course made me eager to learn English in order to understand the lyrics. The lyrics turned out to be vulgar and full of violence, but this couldn't stop my love for him (or at least I thought so at that time).
I remember wearing an ugly tee with the picture of Marshall Mathers on it - the saddest part is that I wouldn't give it to my mother to wash it, as I wanted to wear it every day. She would steal the tee from me when I was asleep and wash it against my will - that made me skip the very first classes in the mornings, as I was too busy trying to dry it with my blow-dryer.
Nevertheless, the most traumatic experience connected with my affection towards Eminem isn't the one connected with the t-shirt. One time, I tried to reach for something from the highest shelf in my room - being extremely bright I decided to use a caster chair to fulfill my goal. As everyone can probably imagine, I fell down immediately, tearing my favorite Eminem poster up. My dream boyfriend's head was literally hanging pathetically which made me cry...

on the article published in "The Observer"

In response to AgataL's post, I've decided to share my views on the matter.

To be honest, I'm not surprised by the fact that English teenagers are refusing to learn foreign languages. I think that they are very much aware that English is today's lingua franca, which makes them convinced that they can communicate with people all over the world using their own native language and still be understood. Even I chose to learn English because of its universality – the truth is that all of my foreign friends (Swedish, Turkish, Spanish, and German) know English and this is the language that made us able to communicate and develop our relationships.
However, if someone’s 1st language isn’t English, one is somehow condemned to learn foreign languages – how else could we communicate with the rest of the world? I can’t imagine knowing Polish only – I feel really sorry for my friends who don’t know any foreign languages – I have no idea how they function in the internet, which is DOMINATED by English. In my opinion, they miss a lot. Let’s take for example shopping – eBay is the best internet market place I’ve ever seen and although it has its Polish version, it’s still poor and doesn’t translate key words while searching, which makes access to international transactions nearly impossible for those who don't know other languages.

HIM - Wicked Game

An old love ballad with a sweet metal twist?
Here's an awesome cover of Chris Issak's "Wicked Game" by Finnish gods of love metal - HIM.
Enjoy.
